Maria Garase, Mercyhurst University

Maria L. Garase, Ph.D., is currently an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice at Mercyhurst University, which is located in Erie PA. She received her doctoral degree in Criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her master's degree is in Administration of Justice from Mercyhurst College, and her bachelor's degree is in Criminal Justice, with minors in Psychology and Spanish, from Edinboro University of PA. Dr. Garase has presented and/or published in the areas of road rage, juvenile justice, women and crime, graffiti, service learning, and public policy. She is currently working on a project that examines rape myths and bystander interventions on college campuses. She recently completed a sentencing project for the Erie County Adult Probation Department and the PA Commission on Sentencing. She is the author of a book titled: Road Rage. She is the vice chair of the board of directors for Harborcreek Youth Services. She is a member of the Erie County Truancy Taskforce and past member of the executive board of Northeastern Association of Criminal Justice Sciences (NEACJS).
